The Lost Art of Readiness: What the End Times Teach Us About How to Live Now
In an era where two-thirds of committed Christian Americans believe we are living in the last days, author and Bible teacher John Bevere is asking a far more penetrating question than "When will the end come?" His new book, The King Is Coming: It's Time to Prepare for the Return of Christ, reframes eschatology not as a calendar of apocalyptic events, but as a summons to spiritual transformation.
Bevere challenges the tendency to reduce end-times belief to either anxious avoidance or a checklist of signs. Instead, he invites believers to consider what the widespread conviction among the faithful actually demands of them. "If just a handful of people, even a minority, are saying it is the last of the last days, then chances are it isn't due to the majority not sensing the season," Bevere observed. "But when over 65% are stating this, we should pay attention."
For Bevere, the true signal is not geopolitical turmoil but a divine call to holiness. He points to the rebirth of Israel as a unique historical marker—"No other generation has seen the fig tree, Israel, reborn"—yet insists the proper response is not speculation but preparation of the heart. The end, he argues, is less a date on the calendar and more a mirror held up to the soul, asking each believer: Are you ready to meet the King?
